Landscape Lighting In NYC

LED landscape lighting is a great way to transform your backyard or rooftop into the entertaining space it deserves to be. Enjoy your plants during the nighttime hours with low voltage lighting. LEDs consume 2/3rds less energy than classic halogen bulbs and have a lifespan of 11 years. It is also possible to retrofit your existing  halogen bulb lighting system to LED bulbs! Landscape lighting is often recommended for the NYC rooftop, terrace and backyard. The proper use of outdoor lighting can create a great outdoor environment to host friends, family and outdoor events. There are many different styles of landscape lights with different levels of brightness available. To light a tree I recommend using an up-light to highlight the trunk, upper branches and leaves; reflecting the light in an upper direction. Walls can also be successfully lit using up-lights. To add lighting to the lower levels of your garden, you can use path lights which reflect the light downward. Landscape lighting is a great way to light your New York City rooftop, terrace or backyard. I prefer them to standard wall mounted lights which provide general lighting but without any focus. A successful landscape lighting system should highlight a tree, shrub, fountain, sculpture or any unique garden feature of your outdoor space; while simutaniuosly providing enough light so that you can properly function during the nighttime hours. In my years of working with landscape lighting I have learned some important things to consider. 1) Always have your landscape lights focused on a specific element of your garden; never aimed in a direction that could potentially  catch somebodys line of vision. I have seen many times an outdoor lighting system that fails to highlight the unique gardens elements. 2) Always hide your landscape lighting electrical wire when possible. In a backyard garden it is always possible to cover with mulch, on a rooftop you can hide by going underneath pavers. 3)Use a 12 gauge outdoor electrical wire as your mainline, and a 10 gauge as a run off to your landscape lighting fixtures. 4) Always calculate your total wattage consumed and select an outdoor transformer which can handle the load. Its better to use a high  quality transformer as this is truly the heart and soul of your landscape lighting system. To roughly estimate you transformer size, add up all the wattage of the bulbs that your are using. Hope this helps and if there are any questions, please feel free contact us.
